Drainage Ditches

Florida drops 50+ inches of rain a year. If your property floods or holds water, a properly graded drainage ditch — and the right culverts and pipe — moves water where it needs to go, away from your structures, fields, and roads.

What We Build

Open Drainage Ditches

Graded cuts along property edges, driveways, or fields to channel water away. The most affordable and effective solution for most rural properties.

Road & Driveway Drainage

Ditches alongside drives and farm roads prevent washout and erosion. Includes culvert installation under crossings.

Field & Pasture Drainage

Standing water in fields stunts crops and weakens pastures. We grade drainage paths that pull water off the surface without eroding topsoil.

How It Works

1

Site Assessment

We walk the property, identify water flow patterns, and determine the best drainage path and grade. We look at outfall options and confirm what permits may be required.

2

Staking & Layout

We stake the ditch line and confirm grade before cutting. You'll know exactly where the ditch goes before any ground is broken.

3

Excavation & Grading

Our excavator cuts the ditch to proper depth and slope — enough grade to move water without eroding the ditch bottom. Spoil material is spread or hauled.

4

Culverts & Crossings

Where drives or paths cross the ditch, we install properly sized culverts and backfill the crossing to grade.

5

Final Inspection

We walk the ditch with you and verify grade, outfall, and that everything ties in properly.

Drainage FAQs

How much does a drainage ditch cost in Florida?
Starting around $5–$12 per linear foot for a basic open ditch. Projects requiring culverts or difficult terrain run higher. Free on-site quote before we start.
Do I need a permit?
Drainage work near wetlands or connecting to county ditches/canals often requires permits from your Water Management District. We'll advise you when we assess the site.
How deep does a drainage ditch need to be?
Typically 18"–36" deep with 1–2% grade minimum to ensure flow. Final depth depends on your outfall elevation and soil.
